Kitchen benchtops are perhaps the most functionally important space in your entire house. Not only do they need to be kept clean so that you can easily prepare food, but they also need to be in good condition so that they don't attract cockroaches, ants and other creepy crawlies. If you have had your kitchen benchtop for a while and are wondering whether it is time to upgrade, then you should know that there has never been a better time to do this than now. Here are a few signs that you should definitely consider upgrading your kitchens benchtops as soon as possible!

Cuts, Cracks Or Other Surface Imperfections

Kitchen benchtops have a protective layer on the top of them to ensure they last a long time, can withstand the heavy punishment they are put through and still remain easy to clean. When that protective layer is worn away, and cracks appear on the surface, it is a sign that what is happening below the surface is even worse. Bacteria thrive in small, enclosed environments and are looking for any space to grab hold of. Cracks provide a perfect hideout for them and help them avoid cleaning, which in turn allows them to get even more potent and dangerous if they come into contact with food.

Frustrating Design

Sometimes the ideas and plans we have in our head for the layout of a kitchen don't always translate so well in reality. A kitchen benchtop should be easy to use and quick to tidy up. If it is anything but this, then you should seriously consider remodelling because you will only get more agitated with it as time goes on. For example, if you have created tiny nooks for your appliances to go in but they actually drastically reduce available workspace. Or perhaps the drawers beneath your benchtop make it impossible to navigate your kitchen easily. Whatever the case may be a kitchen should be built with functionality at its core, and if that is not the case, then you need to fix it.

Poor Materials

While it can be appealing to try and replicate the luxurious designs of opulent kitchens, in reality the cheap version of those expensive materials is often worse than similarly priced products. You are better off spending a few hundred or even thousand dollars on a practical, durable and minimalistic design rather than a faux granite block. This will become obvious pretty early on in your time with poorly constructed kitchen benchtops, and the good news is that you can fix it. Get a new benchtop before this one becomes even more of an eyesore, and you won't regret it!
